We managed to capture the exciting atmospehere and the international feel of the event.
About Stirling as a host
The historic city and surrounding area was the seventh location to be announced as a host of the event that took place in Glasgow and across Scotland from 3-13 August 2023.
Stirling’s iconic landscape provided a fitting backdrop, with the city also having held the opening time trial as part of the inaugural Pru Tour in 1998, won by cycling legend Chris Boardman.
To celebrate the return of world-class cycling to Stirling, Boardman revisited the scene of his triumph 24 years on alongside current Team GB time trial athlete Anna Shackley, who was born just 30 miles from Stirling and made her Olympic debut in the time trial in Tokyo in 2021.
Route of The Individual Time Trial Events
Stirling and its surrounding areas hosted the Individual Time Trials for Elite Men, Elite Women, Men Under 23’s, and Men and Women Juniors. The competition began on Wednesday 9 August and there were races ongoing across three days until Friday 11 August. Event routes set off from the King’s and Queen’s Knott in the shadow of Stirling Castle on a course that took them fast, through the flats of the River Forth and out in looping routes across the country, before looping back towards Stirling town centre, and finishing at Stirling Castle Esplanade.
The routes are available below for experienced cyclists who want to complete them. Please note that the roads will be in use by other vehicles.
The Men Elite headed towards Thornhill and then down to Kippen before looping back towards Stirling town centre. The Women Elite and Men Under 23 also traveled towards Thornhill but turned left down the B8031 before looping back towards the town centre. The Junior Men and Junior Women did a smaller loop, heading out on the same route along the A811 as the Elite and Under 23 race before turning back at Gargunnock to the finish. Once back in the city centre all the riders made the turn on to the Corn Exchange Road before they made their final accent up a short sharp climb through centuries of Scottish history to a unique finish at Stirling Castle Esplanade.
