Stirling Old Town Jail

The live performance tours and Scene of the Crime Exhibition allow you to safely explore the dark history of local crime and punishment, as well as giving a remarkable insight into prison life and prison reform. You can also download a free app to learn more as you explore.

Live performance tours

The performance tours are officially back and run daily at 30 minute intervals between 10.15am and 6pm. A costumed actor will take you through the Jail and then you can use a handset (or download the free app) to continue exploring. Visit the cells on the ground floor before heading to the Exercise Yard which is of course located – yes, you guessed it – on the roof! From here you will continue to our observation tower for breath-taking views of the Old Town, Ochils, Trossachs… on a clear day you can see as far as Edinburgh’s Forth Road Bridges!

The whole experience lasts between 45 and 90 minutes – but there’s no time-limit. Our helpful guides are always on hand to offer insight into all that Stirling has to offer.
