She’s best known as being the creator of Miss Jean Brodie, but one of Scotland’s greatest writers had a darker side. We are marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Muriel Spark by exploring her many novels in search of the clues that may define her as one of the real progenitors of Tartan Noir. After all, she is credited by a certain Ian Rankin as being his main inspiration.

Taking a walk on Dame Muriel’s wild side will be authors Louise Welsh and Zoe Strachan along with Alan Taylor who’s book Appointment in Arezzo details his friendship with the great lady.
